About the event

“Lambeth you've never seen, The skies ain't blue, the grass ain't green. It hasn't got the Mayfair touch, But that don't matter very much!” *

North Lambeth was the first area of the borough to develop, as the boggy marshland along the south bank of the River Thames dried up, industry flourished and the population exploded. Join this 90-minute walking tour to discover stories of the people who have lived or worked here. Despite often difficult conditions, they established a reputation for resourcefulness, resilience and pride.

Meet outside the Garden Museum Cafe, on the corner of Lambeth Road (what3words: larger.lock.flank)

The tour is mostly flat, but please contact the organiser if you have accessibility concerns. We will do our best to accommodate everybody.

*From song ‘The Lambeth Walk’, Me and My Girl, Furber and Rose, 1937
