About the event

North Lambeth was historically low-lying, marshy and liable to flooding, making it unsuitable for extensive building with only a few buildings as Medieval survivors. After centuries of water-based industry, this otherwise rural area was transformed by the coming of the railways, with tracks elevated over the swampy ground via arches, connecting with the new Waterloo Station in 1848. Our walk follows the line of that track as we seek out lost architecture and hidden details that reveal the story of the route from Palace to Station.
