About the event
Sir Joseph Bazalgette was one of the greatest of all London engineers and was regarded worldwide as a leading engineering consultant. This monumental and vast system eradicated the deadly disease cholera from London which had been killing residents in thousands. BUT...he designed and built so much more of London's infrastructure which still exists today. They include The Albert, Victoria and Chelsea Embankments, major thoroughfares and redesigned major bridges as well as two pumping stations, known as the cathedrals of industry.
