About the event

Waterloo is one of the most famous parts of the borough of Lambeth but it tends to be a place to arrive at or leave from rather than a place to explore. On this walk Geoff will explain how it grew from a lonely marsh to become a vibrant centre of entertainment and commerce. We will visit lots of famous locations as well as some fascination places that are easily overlooked. We will learn how it came to be named after a nineteenth century Belgian battle, why it is so popular with film makers, about the huge range of places of entertainment located here and how it was once the home of London’s biggest street market. We will also encounter a range of fascinating characters who have lived and worked here.

Meet underneath the large station clock in Waterloo Station at 13:00 on Tuesday June 13th

Finish back at Waterloo Station at 15:00
