Lambeth Tour Guides offered 12 free walks throughout the day on Saturday 4th October 2025 as part of London Local Guiding Day. 140 people attended the walks including a famous British actor who is a local resident!
This year’s theme was:
Stockwell
Looking through the veil of time
Ten Lambeth Tour Guides told stories about pioneering botanists, the Tradescants, and visited one of the most beautiful squares in Lambeth, which has been home to both Joanna Lumley and the late Edwardian illustrator and artist Arthur Rackham
Stories were also relived about Ralph Vaughan Williams, the great composer and his time as the organist at St Barnabus church as well as admiring The Bronze Woman statue.

The Bronze Woman statue was inspired by a poem of the same name by an extraordinary woman named Cecile Nobrega, a resident of Stockwell.
It was Cecile herself who conceived the idea to create the statue.
It took ten years of campaigning and fundraising to see her dream become reality.
We received very positive feedback from the audience, who are looking forward to the next Local Lambeth Tour Guide Association events.
